Description
A French Model 1886 Lebel Spike Bayonet, featuring a cruciform steel blade with a dull finish and visible pitting. The bayonet is mounted to a brass or bronze grip with a steel crossguard, incorporating a muzzle ring and a push-button locking mechanism. It is accompanied by its tubular metal scabbard, appearing blued or dark-painted steel, and a brown leather frog. The frog is stitched with white thread, secured by a brass buckle and metal rivets, and has a partially legible white paper tag reading ‘Used Works’ attached.
Condition report:
The bayonet and scabbard exhibit significant wear, surface corrosion, and a deep patina consistent with age and use. The cruciform blade shows visible pitting. The metal scabbard has wear and rust. The leather frog displays considerable creasing, darkening, and wear from age and handling. Overall good vintage condition.
