A Chinese Type 56 7.62mm ammunition crate, commonly referred to as a ‘spam can’ in collector circles. The rectangular, galvanized metal crate is predominantly silver-grey with significant remnants of green paint, exhibiting a utilitarian, military style. The lid features prominent black stenciled Chinese characters and numbers: “56式 7.62 毫弹 (铅) 720,” which translates to “Type 56, 7.62mm Lead Cartridges, 720 rounds.” Additional numerical and character markings such as “0003 – 61 2 / 章 2 / 65 35” and “1 – 67” are visible, likely indicating batch numbers, dates (e.g., 1961, 1965, 1967), or other factory codes.
