Description

A Remington Model 1879 Argentine Rolling Block Rifle, chambered in .43 Spanish. This single-shot, breech-loading rifle is primarily constructed of blued steel with a dark stained hardwood stock and fore-end. The receiver is marked “E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A.” and features a series of patent dates: “PAT. MAY 3D 1864 MAY 7TH. JUNE 11TH NOV. 12TH DEC. 24TH 1872 / DFC 31ST 1872 SEPT 9TH 1873 – JAN 19TH MARCH 187M”. It features an exposed hammer, a trigger within a guard, an adjustable ladder-style rear sight graduated with numbers 1 through 4, and a blade front sight. The stock includes sling swivels on the underside.

Condition report:

Good to very good antique condition. The blued finish shows thinning and wear consistent with age and use, particularly on high points and edges. The hardwood stock and fore-end exhibit minor dings, scratches, and handling marks, but no significant cracks or repairs are apparent. There is no heavy corrosion visible on metal components. The action appears to function correctly, though this has not been live-fire tested. Sights are intact and functional.
