A commemorative military medal identified as the French Medal for the Defenders of Arras 1914-1918, 2nd Type. Crafted from a bronze-toned metal, the medal features a Maltese-style cross design with a central rectangular plaque. The obverse prominently displays a crown with radiating lines, two olive or laurel branches, the Latin inscription “SALUS PATRIAE SUPREMA LEX” (The welfare of the state is the supreme law), and the dates “1914” and “1918,” along with the signature “A. The medal is suspended from a red and light blue vertically striped grosgrain ribbon, which is secured by a metal pin-back attachment.
Condition report:
The medal exhibits an aged patina with some surface wear and minor verdigris in recesses, consistent with its likely early 20th-century period. Overall good condition for its age.
