Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 322:
Sold for: $130
Description
A group of Imperial German and other WWI/early 20th Century military identification tags, consistent with market listings for similar period militaria. This lot comprises seven metal identification tags and one larger identification tag, generally oval-shaped with one rectangular example, exhibiting a style consistent with late 19th to early 20th-century military issue. Materials vary from lighter alloys to steel. Markings are primarily stamped or raised text in German, Italian, and potentially French. Visible German text includes military unit abbreviations such as “Ers. Komp. I. Arm. Batt.”, “Kpl. Eggart”, and personal details like “Alfred Libbe, Berlin, geb. 5. 7. 79.” The Italian rectangular tag is marked “Bologna, Motti Vittorio, nato nella Squillace provincia di Catanzaro, Ufficiale di Marina, 1890”. Another tag, attached to a worn brown leather strap with red string, bears “P. DE LOGIS, RILEY, MARCEL.”
Condition report:
Condition ranges from fair to good. Most tags exhibit extensive oxidation, pitting, and surface corrosion commensurate with age and military use. Some markings remain clear and legible, while others are partially obscured by corrosion. The leather strap is worn and brittle.
