Description
A German Mauser Model 1871 bayonet by P.D. Luneburg Solingen, dated 1888. It features a single-edged steel blade with a fuller, an S-shaped steel quillon, and a one-piece cast brass or bronze hilt and pommel with a ribbed grip. Visible markings on the blade near the hilt read “P.D. LUNEBURG SOLINGEN” and the date “1888”. Additional markings “S” and “80” are present on the reverse ricasso.
Condition report:
Fair to poor condition. The steel blade and guard exhibit heavy surface rust and pitting. The brass/bronze hilt shows significant discoloration, patination, and possible paint residue in orange, yellow, and green tones. The blade has noticeable wear, scratching, and some minor edge damage.
