Description

A Colt Model 1889 Navy .38 Caliber Double Action Revolver, constructed of steel with checkered hard rubber grips featuring an oval “COLT” logo. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.” with patent dates “PAT. AUG.5.84 NOV.6.88” (August 5, 1884, and November 6, 1888). The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT D.A. 38”, indicating its .38 caliber double-action designation. A serial or assembly number “980” is visible on the cylinder crane and cylinder face, with additional numerical markings “13 / 450” on the bottom of the grip frame. This six-shot revolver represents an early example of Colt’s double-action military and police revolvers.

Condition report:

The revolver is in well-used condition. It exhibits considerable loss of its original blued finish, with widespread surface patina and areas of light surface rust or corrosion present on the metal components. The checkered hard rubber grips appear largely intact with expected wear commensurate with age and use, including some flattening of the checkering. Mechanical functionality has not been tested.
