Description

A WWI US Model 1917 Bolo Knife and Scabbard. This robust utility or fighting knife features a heavy, curved metal blade. A simple, rectangular metal crossguard separates the blade from the dark, textured wooden handle, which is secured by two visible rivets and terminates in a rounded metal pommel cap with a slight projection. Faint impressed markings including the letters “F.L.” and four partially discernible digits are visible on the blade near the guard. The accompanying sheath is crafted from olive-drab canvas, with a rigid, reddish-brown tip and two metal loops for attachment. Prominent black stenciled markings “13 F” are visible above an insignia of two crossed rifles on the canvas body, suggesting a military unit designation, likely Company F of the 13th Regiment or Battalion.

Condition report:

The knife and sheath exhibit considerable wear, discoloration, and signs of age and extensive use. The blade is darkened with significant patina, scratching, and areas of surface rust. The sheath\'s rigid tip is heavily patinated.
