Description
A Third Reich era military campaign medal, officially known as the Eastern Front Medal or Ostmedaille, awarded for participation in the Winter Campaign in the East 1941/42. Likely composed of zinc or a similar base metal, the obverse displays an eagle clutching a swastika, surmounted by a German Stahlhelm. The reverse is inscribed “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (Winter Battle in the East 1941/42) above a crossed sword and laurel branch motif. The medal is suspended from a red fabric ribbon with a central black stripe bordered by thin white lines.
Condition report:
The medal exhibits considerable surface wear, pitting, and loss of original finish. The ribbon shows fraying at its upper edge and general creasing consistent with age and use.
