Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 504:
Sold for: $800
Description
An antique Remington New Model Army .44 Caliber Percussion Revolver, dating to the Civil War era. This percussion-cap revolver features a solid frame, an octagonal barrel, and a hinged ramrod loading lever located beneath the barrel. The primary metallic components, including the frame, barrel, and cylinder, appear to be steel or iron. The trigger guard is made of brass. The grip panels are constructed from a dark, worn wood, likely walnut. Visible markings include “438” stamped on the left wooden grip and a four-digit number, possibly “2169” or “3169,” faintly stamped on the left barrel flat near the frame. Additional faint, largely illegible text, potentially a manufacturer’s name and address in English, is visible on the top flat of the barrel.
Condition report:
Significant surface pitting, corrosion, and an aged dark patina are present across the metallic components, consistent with heavy use and age. The brass trigger guard exhibits corresponding discoloration. The grip panels are worn. Faint and largely illegible text is noted on the top barrel flat, and the four-digit number on the left barrel flat is indistinct. The overall condition indicates heavy use and age-related wear.
