Description
An antique German Gewehr 88 Commission Rifle, a vintage bolt-action military rifle, constructed with a full-length wooden stock and steel components, currently fitted with a worn leather sling. The receiver bears prominent markings “S. R. 1890”, indicating a production date, along with “C M 88”. The serial number “6204” appears in several places on the receiver and barrel band, accompanied by a “V” or “U” stamp. An additional “V A” mark is present on a barrel band. The buttstock features carved initials or unit markings such as “V. 89 S.” or “V. S9 S.”, and the buttplate is marked “Q.M.M.”. The rifle is chambered for 8mm Mauser (8x57IS) ammunition.
Condition report:
The rifle presents in a well-used, antique condition, characterized by extensive wear, scratches, and dents to the wooden stock. Metal parts exhibit heavy patination, surface rust, and significant loss of original bluing.
