Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 598:
Sold for: $300
Description
A Civil War era Bowie knife, featuring a broad, heavy steel blade with a clip point and a dark, heavily patinated finish. The full-tang handle is constructed with two dark, worn wooden scales, secured by five round brass pins on each side. A simple, straight brass crossguard separates the blade from the handle. No discernible text, maker’s marks, or decorative etchings are visible on any part of the knife. The overall appearance is robust and unrefined, consistent with a well-used historical implement.
Condition report:
Good antique condition, consistent with significant age and heavy use. The blade exhibits extensive surface wear, scratches, and some minor pitting, along with a dark, heavily patinated finish. The brass crossguard shows commensurate wear and patination. The wooden handle scales are worn, with surface scratches and some minor indentations, and the brass pins show age-appropriate discoloration.
