Lot 599:
A Pair of WWII Imperial Japanese Rising Sun War Flags
Sold for: $325
Description
A pair of WWII Imperial Japanese Rising Sun War Flags. Each textile flag features a central red disc from which numerous red rays radiate outwards across a light-colored field. Both are constructed from a lightweight fabric, likely cotton or silk. The flag on the left displays a reinforced hoist end, secured with a brown, triangular-shaped patch, possibly leather or heavy canvas, to which a looped rope is attached. No discernible text or specific manufacturer’s markings are visible on either item.
Condition report:
Good overall condition consistent with age and use. Both flags show creasing and general signs of wear. The flag on the left exhibits more pronounced discoloration to its background field, appearing creamier, while the flag on the right maintains a whiter background. No apparent tears or major losses.
