Description
A Windlass socket bayonet, made in India, with its accompanying black leather scabbard. This piece is crafted in the style of a 19th-century musket bayonet, commonly associated with the American Civil War era. The bayonet features a polished metal blade and a socket attachment, with visible markings on the socket stating “WINDLASS” and “MADE IN INDIA”. The scabbard is constructed from black leather, showing a worn, cracked texture, and features a brass chape at the tip and an integrated frog secured by several copper-toned rivets.
Condition report:
The bayonet is in good, polished condition with some minor surface marks and light residue in the socket area. The scabbard shows considerable wear, cracking, and loss of finish, consistent with its construction and use.
