Gun Collectors Dream Auction #81 January 31st & Feb 1st
Lot 1094:
Sold for: $130
Description
A collection of 10 distinct items related to the historic Peabody Patent Rifle, manufactured by the Providence Tool Co. The lot centers around a large, glossy black-finished metal component, likely a receiver sight base or tang sight base, clearly marked with a bird logo and “PROVIDENCE TOOL CO.”. Accompanying the part is a printed document titled “PEABODY PATENT RIFLES (BREECH LOADING METALLIC CARTRIDGE) MANUFACTURED BY THE PROVIDENCE TOOL CO.” The collection also includes several small accessory parts: two small black screws, a small black lever component, and two partially broken brass figure-eight shims. Two specialized tools are present: a packaged Regal Cutting Tools #11-36 tap and an unmarked high-speed steel drill bit. The entire assortment was shipped in a worn cardboard box labeled “FIRST CLASS” and addressed from “Providence Tool Company, LLC,” bearing the numeric marking “7591,” suggesting these components are modern reproductions or new-old-stock items distributed by a contemporary entity using the historic name. No complete firearm or ammunition is present.
Condition report:
The lot consists of 1000 primers in the original manufacturer\'s packaging. The exterior cardboard box is in excellent, new condition with minimal shelf wear. The visible primers, displayed in one open sleeve of 100, appear factory fresh, clean, and unworn, showing no signs of corrosion or degradation. This lot consists of reloading components only, not live ammunition. We have not tested the ignition reliability of these primers. It is the buyer\'s responsibility to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal firearms laws regarding the purchase and possession of reloading components.
