Description

This lot consists of two separate vintage hand tools designed for the casting and preliminary reloading of lead projectiles, commonly known as tong tools or bullet molds. The quantity of items in this lot is 2. The first tool is a Lyman four-cavity bullet mold block, featuring four distinct casting cavities and a hinged sprue cutter lever. The mold block is clearly marked "LYMAN" on the side. The second tool is a classic Ideal combination tong tool, manufactured in Middlefield, Connecticut. This tool is marked "IDEAL MIDDLEFIELD CONN. U.S.A." on the jaw block. This Ideal tool features a hinged jaw design, a separate sprue cutter lever, and visible caliber markings stamped near the jaws, including "410" and "435." Both tools are equipped with stained hardwood handles secured by metal ferrules. These tools are historically significant accessories for early handloaders and rifle enthusiasts, often associated with the casting of rifle and pistol bullets.

Condition report:

The large metal ammo can exhibits heavy wear, scratches, and surface oxidation consistent with military surplus use. The olive drab paint is worn, and the yellow stenciling is faded but legible. The spent brass casings inside and outside the can are dirty, tarnished, and show signs of firing residue and minor surface corrosion. All casings are empty and inert, having been fired. We have not inspected the headstamps for specific manufacturer or number of reloads. The can appears structurally sound with functioning latches and handle.
