Gun Collectors Dream Auction #81 January 31st & Feb 1st
Lot 320:
Sold for: $90
Description
This lot consists of two used steel rifle barrels designed for the AR-15 semi-automatic platform, consistent with the 5.56 NATO caliber barrels market. Both barrels feature integral barrel extensions at the breech end and threaded muzzles, suitable for mounting muzzle devices. The first, longer barrel (Item 1), is clearly stamped DPMS 5.56 1-9, indicating manufacture by DPMS (Defense Procurement Manufacturing Services), chambered for 5.56 NATO, and featuring a 1:9 rifling twist rate. This barrel includes a drilled gas port, suggesting a carbine or mid-length gas system configuration. The second, shorter barrel (Item 2), is of a heavy profile and lacks visible manufacturer or caliber markings. Both components are intended for the assembly of AR-style rifles.
Condition: Both barrels are in used condition and retain a matte black finish, likely phosphate or nitride, showing moderate to heavy wear. Item 1 (DPMS) exhibits significant finish abrasion and underlying surface oxidation, including light surface rust, in the area where a gas block was previously installed and removed. The bore of the DPMS barrel appears bright with clearly defined rifling. Item 2 (unmarked heavy profile) shows general handling marks and scratches across the surface. The bore of the shorter barrel also appears bright with strong rifling visible. We have not function-tested these barrels for headspace, gas port alignment, or accuracy. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal firearms laws.
