Gun Collectors Dream Auction #81 January 31st & Feb 1st
Lot 345:
Sold for: $250
Description
This is a single Marlin Model 55 bolt-action, magazine-fed shotgun chambered in 12 Gauge. The firearm features a 28 barrel, consistent with common configurations for this model. The action is a manually operated bolt mechanism, feeding from a detachable box magazine currently inserted into the well. The barrel markings clearly identify the manufacturer and model: The Marlin Firearms Co. EST. 1870 NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.-MODEL 55-12 GA. A circular JM proof mark is visible on the receiver area, indicating Marlin manufacture. The trigger guard houses a gold-toned trigger. The firearm is stocked in dark wood, likely walnut. A simple front bead sight is present. No serial number is visible on the exterior surfaces of the receiver or barrel.Barrel Length: 28 inches
Condition: The metal components retain a majority of the original dark blued finish, showing minor surface scratches, handling wear, and thinning consistent with regular field use. The wood stock exhibits various handling marks, abrasions, and minor dings, particularly on the buttstock and forend sides, but appears structurally sound without major cracks. The bolt action appears to function correctly when cycled by hand, and the magazine release operates smoothly. The bore condition is unknown as we have not performed a detailed internal inspection. The buttstock is fitted with a black rubber recoil pad separated by a white spacer. We have not function-tested this firearm with live ammunition. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal firearms laws.
