Gun Collectors Dream Auction #81 January 31st & Feb 1st
Lot 493:
Sold for: $90
Description
Lyman Ideal No. 45 Bullet Lubricator and Sizer Press. This is a vintage manually operated press constructed of cast metal, designed for sizing and lubricating cast bullets for reloading purposes. The press features a long operating lever fitted with a wooden handle grip. The item is accompanied by its original vertical cardboard packaging box, which is clearly marked "Ideal LUBRICATOR & SIZER NO. 45" in orange and black graphics. This model is commonly associated with both Ideal and Lyman, following Lyman’s acquisition of the Ideal brand. This item is a reloading accessory and not a firearm. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal firearms laws regarding any related reloading activities.
Condition: The press displays heavy cosmetic wear commensurate with age and use. The original orange cast metal finish shows significant chipping, flaking, and loss, retaining approximately 70% of the paint overall. Bare steel components, including the operating rods, ram, and springs, exhibit surface rust and heavy patina throughout. The operating lever is fitted with a worn wooden grip secured by a brass ferrule which shows tarnishing. The mechanism appears to operate manually, though we have not function-tested this press with dies or lubricant. The original cardboard packaging is present but shows wear, creasing, tears, and discoloration consistent with long-term storage.
