Gun Collectors Dream Auction #81 January 31st & Feb 1st
Lot 98:
Sold for: $35
Description
A collection of four vintage and decorative belt buckles, primarily featuring Western and American iconography. The lot includes four distinct pieces. The first is an oval Western-style buckle featuring a raised gray textured backing, resembling suede, bordered by a twisted metal rope. Centered within is an inset panel displaying a painted depiction of a Bald Eagle’s head on a black ground, framed by a beaded metal bezel. The reverse includes stickers referencing "Artistic Imports." The second buckle is a shiny silver-toned oval piece featuring a central relief of an eagle in flight with gold-tone accents, superimposed over foliage and below an eight-pointed starburst containing a small clear stone; the background is stippled. The third buckle is a large, heavily textured, silver-toned oval piece depicting a detailed Western cattle drive scene with cowboys on horseback and several large steer, incorporating a large number ‘7’ in the foreground; the reverse shows a partial manufacturer mark "BEN-SERIES." The fourth buckle is a unique, cloud-shaped design constructed from a silver-toned metal frame that securely mounts fourteen US five-cent coins (Jefferson Nickels) clustered together.
Condition: All four buckles exhibit general wear, surface scratches, and minor tarnish consistent with previously owned accessories. The metal surfaces show scuffing, particularly on the reverse side where the belt loops are located. The painted eagle panel on the first buckle is intact but shows minor surface abrasions. The textured material on the first buckle shows slight discoloration and wear. The reverse of all four buckles features white inventory or price stickers adhered to the surface, some of which are partially peeled or marked. The mechanisms (prongs and loops) appear functional.
