Lot 1225:
Winchester Western Mark 5 Vintage 12 Gauge Shotgun Ammunition Lot Circa 1960s
Sold for: $40
Description
A collector’s lot consisting of four vintage cardboard boxes of 12 Gauge shotgun ammunition manufactured by Winchester and Western. This lot features 85 total shells. The boxes represent the transition era to plastic hulls, designated as the “Mark 5” series, dating this lot to approximately the mid-to-late 1960s. The lot includes two boxes of Winchester/Western SUPER X MARK 5 and two boxes of WINCHESTER SUPER-SPEED MARK 5. All shells are 12 Gauge, 2 3/4-inch length. Load specifications vary, including 1 1/4 ounce shot weights and shot sizes of 2 Shot or 4 Shot, with dram equivalents noted (e.g., 3 DRAMS, 3 3/4 DRAMS EQUIV.). The shells themselves are plastic-hulled with brass bases, featuring both black and red plastic types. Faint internal markings visible on the shells reference DUPONT powder and specific load data. The boxes retain vibrant graphics typical of mid-century sporting goods advertising and carry the warning “Keep out of reach of children.” No ruler or scale is present.
