Lot 1167:
Description
This I. Hollis and Sons English Bull Dog is a double action solid frame revolver chambered for a large bore cartridge, typically .44 caliber. The firearm is configured with a 2.5 inch octagonal barrel featuring a pivoting ejector rod and a right side loading gate. The metal surfaces exhibit a worn blued finish that has transitioned into a dark brown patina with visible surface oxidation and light pitting across the frame, cylinder, and barrel. The furniture consists of a one piece checkered wood grip that shows moderate wear and handling marks but remains largely intact. Sighting is provided by a fixed blade front sight and a notched rear sight integrated into the top strap. Key markings include the model designation ENGLISH. and BULL = DOG engraved on the top strap, while the top of the barrel is marked I. HOLLIS and SONS, LONDON. The serial number C 2 7 9 W is explicitly stamped on the lower portion of the backstrap. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The revolver is in fair to good antique condition. The original blued finish has mostly transitioned to a dark brown patina with areas of surface oxidation and light pitting throughout. The bore was not inspected, but the exterior condition suggests age-appropriate wear. The double action mechanism appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The one piece checkered wood grips show moderate smoothing of the checkering and various handling marks but remain structurally sound.
