Description
This Schrade IXL single blade lockback folding knife is a collaborative production between the Schrade Cutlery Corp. of New York and George Wostenholm and Son of Sheffield, England. The clip point steel blade features a decorative etch with banners reading Schrade Sheffield, 1787 IXL, and Wostenholm England. The handle is composed of jigged bone scales in a dark reddish-brown and black finish, secured with a brass pin over brass liners. The polished nickel silver bolsters feature specific stampings: the front bolster is marked with serial number 09652, and the rear bolster is stamped with four individual marks S, W, C, and o. The knife is accompanied by its original brown faux-leather presentation box with a gold-tone logo and red velvet lining. Included ephemera consists of a Certificate of Ownership signed by Schrade President Henry B. Baer and a printed insert titled Quality Knives Since 1787.
Condition report:
The knife is in good vintage condition with signs of age and storage wear. The blade shows active surface oxidation and localized pitting, most notably near the tang and along the spine. The factory edge remains largely intact with minor staining. Bolsters and bone scales exhibit light surface scuffing. The presentation box shows external wear and scuffing to the faux-leather finish. Included documentation shows age-related yellowing, and the certificate has been detached along the perforated line.
