Lot 1294:
Description
This collection of mid-20th-century bullet casting equipment was manufactured by Lyman. The group includes several double-cavity mold blocks and corresponding handles. The mold blocks are constructed of steel and feature stamped manufacturer marks and caliber designations. One block is stamped LYMAN 358, intended for .38/.357 caliber bullets. A second block is stamped LYMAN 311324 for .30 caliber. The third block is stamped LYMAN 429244 for .44 caliber. An additional unmatched mold block half is also included. The three sets of handles feature steel jaws, brass ferrules, and wooden grips. Two of the wooden handles bear handwritten ink notations including 44 250 AT and 2.50 44 CAL, referencing specific .44 caliber loads.
Condition report:
The items are in as-found condition. All metal components exhibit moderate to heavy surface rust and oxidation. The wooden handles show darkening, staining, and surface wear consistent with age and use. The mechanical hinges on the handles remain functional. The mold blocks require cleaning and restoration before they can be used for casting.
