Description
This lot consists of four metal canisters of Winchester-Western 785 Ball Powder smokeless propellant, totaling 4 lbs. These cylindrical containers were manufactured for use in centerfire rifle loads and feature screw-top metal lids. The labels are prominently marked with the Winchester-Western logo and the large numeral 785 on a green background. Verbatim markings on the cans include Winchester-Western Ball Powder, Smokeless Propellant, For Center Fire Rifle Loads, and 785. Additional text reads Danger Smokeless Gunpowder, Highly Flammable, Keep Away From Heat Or Flame, and Read Warning And Caution On Label Before Using. One canister retains a partial orange retail price tag. These items are being sold as collectibles and have not been tested for chemical stability or performance.
Condition report:
The canisters are in poor overall condition, exhibiting heavy oxidation and significant rust on the screw-top lids, upper shoulders, and bases. The paper labels show substantial wear, including heavy staining, peeling, and significant paper loss, particularly on two of the units. The metal surfaces beneath the labels show signs of corrosion. The integrity of the propellant inside has not been verified.
