Description
This bolt action rifle is a sporterized military firearm based on a Mauser pattern and chambered in an unknown caliber. The rifle features a stepped barrel equipped with a post front sight and a tangent style leaf rear sight, with the leaf absent. The metal surfaces retain a blued finish that shows significant wear, surface oxidation, and light pitting, particularly on the bolt assembly and steel buttplate. The front receiver ring has been drilled and tapped with two holes for an optics mount, and the action includes a turned down bolt handle with a round knob. The sporter style stock is constructed from a light colored wood, likely birch or beech, and exhibits numerous small nicks, scratches, and handling marks consistent with age and use, with a single sling swivel attached to the underside of the buttstock. Key markings include the serial number U4033 on the left side of the receiver and the barrel shank, with an incised capital letter R on the top of the barrel shank. Caliber is unknown. Condition report:
The rifle is in fair condition. The barrel and receiver retain much of their dark finish with areas of thinning and scattered scratches. The bolt, bolt handle, and buttplate show heavy surface rust and significant pitting.
