Gun Collectors Dream Auction #83 May 2nd & 3rd TWO DAYS - NO RESERVES - 1200 LOTS!
Lot 145:
Sold for: $100
Description
This lot consists of three bullet casting components including two complete four-cavity molds with handles and one additional four-cavity mold block. The items are designed for casting .38 or .357 caliber projectiles, specifically the semi-wadcutter profile associated with the SAECO 397 model. The top assembly features a steel four-cavity block mounted to a pair of wood-handled pliers. The middle assembly is a similar four-cavity steel block with wood-handled pliers. The bottom item is a standalone four-cavity steel mold block with an integrated sprue plate; note that this block is missing handles. Key markings include the SAECO logo and the number 397 stamped on the side of the top block, while the handles are marked RCBS. The middle block bears the faint marking LYMAN on its side. The standalone bottom block is stamped with the SAECO logo and 397 on both the sprue plate and the side of the block. All components are constructed of steel with wooden grips on the handled units.
Condition report:
All three items exhibit significant signs of heavy use and age. There is widespread surface rust and oxidation across the steel blocks, sprue plates, and handle hardware. The mold cavities contain lead residue and carbon buildup. The wooden handles show darkening, scuffs, and finish wear consistent with industrial use. The mechanical pivot points on the handles appear to move, though they may be stiff due
