Description
This side-by-side hammer shotgun is chambered for 12-gauge and features a traditional double-trigger configuration. The firearm is equipped with laminated steel barrels featuring a matted top rib and a brass bead front sight. The receiver and lock plates exhibit decorative scroll engraving and are fitted with external hammers. The furniture consists of a checkered wood pistol grip stock and a matching splinter-style forend. Key markings include the manufacturer designation AMERICAN GUN CO. NEW YORK on both lock plates and the serial number 39496 stamped on the receiver water table and the underside of the wooden forend. Barrel markings specify GENUINE LAMINATED STEEL on the rib and CHOKE BORED on the right barrel. The shotgun is finished with a hard rubber buttplate featuring an embossed dog’s head logo. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The metal components exhibit a dark brown patina throughout with areas of surface oxidation and light pitting consistent with age. The bores were not inspected but the exterior shows significant wear and use. The action appears to function mechanically, though we have not function-tested this firearm for safety or live fire. The wood stock and forend show numerous dings, scratches, and thinning of the original finish. The hard rubber buttplate shows a significant chip at the heel.
