Description
This lot consists of three vintage metal canisters of Winchester-Western smokeless gunpowder, representing a total of 3 lbs of powder. Each cylindrical container features a printed paper label identifying the contents as 785 Ball Powder, a smokeless propellant designed for centerfire rifle loads. The canisters are constructed with metal bodies and threaded metal caps. Prominent markings on the labels include the Winchester-Western logo and the numeric designation 785 in large type, along with the text Smokeless Propellant for Center Fire Rifle Loads. One canister retains a partial red price sticker from Tory’s H & T. These items are offered as historical collectibles for display purposes.
Condition report:
The canisters are in poor overall condition, exhibiting significant signs of age and environmental exposure. All three containers show heavy oxidation and surface rust on the exposed metal tops and bases. The paper labels are yellowed and stained with extensive foxing and areas of loss. The canister on the far right displays the most severe damage, with advanced corrosion that has perforated the metal casing and caused the label to detach and tear. The contents are aged and should be handled according to all applicable safety regulations for vintage propellants.
