Description
The Stevens Model 87A is a versatile rimfire rifle designed to function as a semi-automatic when using .22 Long Rifle cartridges and as a manually operated bolt-action for .22 Short or Long cartridges. This tubular magazine-fed firearm features a blued finish on the barrel and receiver, the latter of which is characterized by horizontal gill slots on the left side and a cross-bolt charging handle on the right. The rifle is mounted in a smooth wood stock with a black-painted forend tip and a ribbed black plastic buttplate. It is equipped with a fixed post front sight and an adjustable notch rear sight. Verbatim markings on the barrel include STEVENS SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A. MODEL 87A and .22 SHORT, LONG OR LONG RIFLE LONG RIFLE ONLY AS AUTOMATIC. Additional markings include patent numbers 2223093, RE 22585, and 2271576. No serial number is visible on the exterior of the firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal finish on the barrel, receiver, and magazine tube shows significant and widespread surface oxidation with lots of rust on firearm. The wood stock remains in fair to good condition with minor handling marks and wear to the black finish on the forend tip. The action appears to function mechanically, but we have not function-tested this firearm. The bore condition was not inspected.
