Description
This collection of automatic fly fishing reels was manufactured by the Martin Automatic Fish Reel Co. of Mohawk, New York. The assortment includes reels in three different finishes: two in a silver-toned aluminum, two with a black finish, and one in a maroon finish. Each reel features a metal center plate stamped with the manufacturer name and location. Specific model designations visible on the frames include Nº2, 02, and 03. The metal housings bear various patent inscriptions, including U.S. PAT. OCT-9, 1923 and PAT. NO. 2-175-755. These reels are constructed with a spring-loaded internal mechanism and a side-mounted lever for automatic line retrieval.
Condition report:
The collection shows visible signs of age and previous use. Surface scratches and abrasions are present across all items. The black and maroon finished reels exhibit areas of finish loss and paint chipping. Minor oxidation and pitting are visible on the metal components and fasteners. The mechanical functionality of the internal springs and levers has not been tested.
