Description
This is a fixed blade machete manufactured by the Ontario Knife Co. The blade is constructed of carbon steel and features a wide, single-edged profile with a squared-off tip. The blade flats exhibit a polished finish. The tang is stamped with the marks ONTARIO KNIFE CO. and U.S. near the handle. The handle consists of two-piece wooden scales secured to a full tang with three large brass compression rivets. A leather thong is threaded through a lanyard hole located at the pommel. The item is accompanied by an olive drab canvas sheath with stitched edges.
Condition report:
Good vintage condition. The carbon steel blade shows scattered light surface pitting and oxidation on both sides. The cutting edge has minor nicks and shows evidence of period sharpening. The wooden handle scales are intact with a natural patina and minor dings. The canvas sheath shows light fading and wear but remains functional.
