Gun Collectors Dream Auction #83 May 2nd & 3rd TWO DAYS - NO RESERVES - 1200 LOTS!
Lot 1582:
Description
This lot features a single vintage metal canister of DuPont SR-4759 smokeless powder, a propellant utilized for ammunition reloading. The rectangular metal container is adorned with a paper label displaying the red DuPont logo and the product designation SR-4759 SMOKELESS POWDER. While the original label indicates a 4-pound capacity, this specific lot contains 3 LBS total of propellant. Front label markings include PI-4409 REV. 5-73 at the lower left. The reverse side provides detailed safety warnings and storage directions, attributing the manufacture to E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. (Inc.) of Wilmington, Delaware. Ink-stamped codes P73JY29A and 11180 are present on the back. The canister is topped with a metal pour spout and cap. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The canister exhibits significant signs of age and shelf wear, characterized by visible surface rust on the top and bottom metal surfaces and along the vertical seams. The paper labels show yellowing, staining, and some surface abrasions, though the primary text remains legible. The metal cap is present and shows oxidation consistent with the age of the piece; the cap appears to function correctly. The internal propellant is noted as 3 LBS total and appears to have been stored in a dry environment, though we have not function-tested this propellant.
