Lot 312:
Sold for: $190
Description
This Smith & Wesson Military & Police Model 1902 is a six-shot double-action revolver chambered in .38 S&W Special. The firearm features a 5-inch barrel with a fixed half-round front sight and a frame-notched rear sight. The metal surfaces exhibit a heavy, honest wear pattern that has aged into a mottled gray and brown patina with visible surface oxidation and light pitting across the frame, cylinder, and barrel. The revolver is fitted with original black checkered hard rubber grips featuring the S&W monogram. Key markings include the left side of the barrel stamped .38 S. & W. SPECIAL & U.S. SERVICE CTG’S and the top of the barrel bearing the manufacturer name and address in Springfield, Massachusetts, along with patent dates ranging from April 9, 1889, to December 17, 1901. The matching serial number 31575 is clearly stamped on the butt and the rear face of the cylinder, while the crane is marked 61201 over L. The right side of the frame displays the large S&W trade mark logo. This lot includes a vintage black leather Audley Official Holster featuring a spring-lock design, which shows significant age-related cracking and finish loss. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The revolver is in fair to good condition, showing a complete loss of original bluing which has been replaced by a consistent brown and gray patina. There is evidence of light to moderate pitting and surface oxidation throughout the exterior metalwork. The bore appears dark with visible rifling and some internal fouling. The double-action and single-action cycles appear to function correctly with proper cylinder timing and lockup, though we have not function-tested this firearm with live ammunition. The hard rubber grips remain intact with moderate smoothing to the checkering and a few small handling dings. The accompanying leather holster is in poor to fair condition with heavy crazing, surface flaking, and worn stitching.
