Description
This lot consists of thirty-eight rounds of .50 BMG (Browning Machine Gun) ammunition produced for military service during the Second World War. The collection is presented in a white cardboard box with a foam insert, containing thirty-six cartridges held vertically and two cartridges resting horizontally across the top. The ammunition features standard brass cases and copper-jacketed ball projectiles. Key markings include headstamps from two prominent United States facilities: the Denver Ordnance Plant and the Saint Louis Ordnance Plant. Verbatim headstamp markings include DEN 42, DEN 43, SL 42, and SL 43, confirming production dates in 1942 and 1943. The primers exhibit various colored sealants, primarily in red and purple hues. The cardboard lid features handwritten notations including Loaded Ball and other partially legible script.
Condition report:
The ammunition is in original, uncleaned condition. The brass cases exhibit significant age-related tarnish, a dark patina, and scattered areas of green verdigris. The copper-jacketed projectiles show surface oxidation and minor handling marks consistent with military surplus storage. The primers appear intact with original sealants present. The cartridges appear to be live rounds; however, they have not been tested for reliability or safety. The cardboard box and foam insert show moderate shelf wear and staining.
