Gun Collectors Dream Auction #84 June 13th & 14th
Lot 1116:
Sold for: $180
Description
This is a Stevens Model 520 pump action shotgun chambered for 12 gauge, manufactured for Sears, Roebuck and Company under the Ranger trade name and featuring a takedown action based on a John Browning design. The firearm is configured with a 30 inch plain barrel featuring a fixed full choke and a single brass bead front sight at the muzzle. The blued steel finish on the barrel and receiver displays visible silvering along high edges, thinning on the magazine tube from cycling the action, and areas of scattered surface oxidation on the receiver. The furniture is comprised of a checkered walnut pistol grip stock and a matching forend, both showing various scratches, dings, and handling marks from field use. A serrated black buttplate is fitted to the rear of the stock. Verbatim markings include the Ranger name with a mounted rider logo on the left side of the receiver, and the barrel specifies Selected Forged Steel—Proof Tested and Browning Design—12 Gauge alongside the Full choke designation. The serial number 11348 C is stamped on the bottom of the receiver tang. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued steel finish is in good overall condition, showing approximately 70 percent coverage with notable silvering on the receiver edges and thinning on the magazine tube from use. Scattered light surface oxidation is present on the receiver. The bore is bright and clean with no signs of pitting. The walnut stock and forend are structurally sound with no cracks, though they exhibit numerous scratches, dings, and impressions consistent with age and field handling. The serrated buttplate shows minor wear. The action cycles smoothly.
