Lot 1140:
Sold for: $170
Description
This is a Springfield Model 87A semi-automatic rifle chambered for .22 caliber cartridges, manufactured by the J. Stevens Arms Company of Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. The rifle is configured with a 24-inch round barrel and an under-barrel tubular magazine. The action is uniquely designed to operate semi-automatically when using .22 Long Rifle ammunition, while the bolt can be manually locked for use with .22 Short or .22 Long cartridges. The left side of the receiver features the distinctive gilled ventilation slots, and the right side houses the cocking handle. The metal components exhibit a blued finish, and the firearm is mounted in a smooth one-piece wood stock with a black synthetic buttplate. The receiver is equipped with a sliding safety at the rear. Sights consist of a front bead and a factory adjustable rear notch. Markings on the barrel include Springfield J. Stevens Arms Company Chicopee Falls, Mass. U.S.A. Model 87A and .22 Short Long or Long Rifle Long Rifle Only As Automatic. The barrel also bears patent numbers 2094577, 2224758, 2223093, RE 22585, and 2271576. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal components retain a moderate amount of their original blued finish with visible thinning, edge wear, and light scattered surface oxidation consistent with age. The smooth wood stock is in good overall condition, showing various minor scratches, dings, and compression marks from handling. The action appears to function correctly, though it has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The bore was not inspected.
