Gun Collectors Dream Auction #84 June 13th & 14th
Lot 1241:
Sold for: $35
Description
This lot consists of a pair of US military-style metal ammunition cans, specifically the M2A1 model designed to house and transport linked .50 caliber cartridges. Constructed of heavy-gauge steel with hinged, gasket-sealed lids and heavy-duty side latches, both cans feature top-mounted folding carry handles for portability. The first can is finished in a light olive green and is stamped S.C.F. on one end. The second can is finished in a darker olive drab and bears the stamped end markings BFF-2007 over M2A1. This second can also displays yellow stenciled markings on its side indicating its original contents: LINK M9, 4-API M8, 1-API-T M20, and the lot number LC-08B685, referencing the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant.
Condition report:
The ammunition cans are in good surplus condition, exhibiting signs of previous military use. The exterior finishes show scattered surface scratches, minor dings, and localized paint loss. Small areas of surface oxidation are present, primarily concentrated along the hinges, edges, and latches. The rubber gaskets appear intact, and the latching mechanisms function properly, ensuring a secure closure. The interiors are clean with no significant corrosion observed.
