Description

This is a J.C. Higgins Model 103.16 bolt-action rifle, a model produced by Marlin Firearms for Sears, Roebuck & Company. Chambered for .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle cartridges, the firearm features a tapered barrel and a receiver factory-drilled for side-mounted optics. The rifle is mounted in a one-piece walnut-finished hardwood stock with a semi-pistol grip and is equipped with a beaded blade front sight and an adjustable rear leaf sight. Key markings on the barrel include J.C. HIGGINS-MODEL 103.16-22 CAL and SEARS, ROEBUCK & COMPANY-S-L-LR. The left side of the receiver is stamped with the serial number 12049. The firearm is fitted with a black plastic buttplate with horizontal grooving and includes one detachable steel box magazine. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The original blued steel finish shows significant thinning and has largely transitioned to a plum-brown patina, with visible surface oxidation and areas of light pitting throughout the barrel and receiver. The hardwood stock is structurally sound but exhibits frequent scuffs, scratches, and areas of finish wear consistent with age and use. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The included magazine shows external surface wear, oxidation, and some non-factory markings scratched into the side.
