Gun Collectors Dream Auction #84 June 13th & 14th
Lot 1452:
Sold for: $150
Description
This Spanish Model 1893 bolt action rifle was produced at the Oviedo factory and is chambered in 7x57mm Mauser. The rifle is configured with a blued round barrel and receiver, while the bolt assembly remains in the white with a polished finish. The original military wood stock has been sporterized by cutting down the forend and has been refinished with a high-gloss varnish. It retains its military-specification ladder rear sight and a ramped blade front sight. Notable markings include the receiver ring crest transcribed as FABRICA DE ARMAS OVIEDO 1913 and the serial number 2B3434 stamped on the left side of the receiver and barrel. The firearm exhibits mismatched components, as the bolt handle is marked E4768 and the trigger guard and floorplate bear the numbers M 4715 and 4715 respectively, accompanied by several small proof marks. The stock is fitted with a metal buttplate and aftermarket sling swivel studs. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in fair to good condition as sporterized. The blued finish on the barrel and receiver shows thinning and handling wear, with areas of light surface oxidation and minor pitting present on the floorplate and buttplate. The bore has not been inspected. The action appears to function correctly, although the rifle has not been function-tested for safety. The refinished wood stock is characterized by a significant condition issue, including a large chip and crack in the stock wrist on the right side behind the bolt handle. The high-gloss varnish displays scattered light dings and scratches consistent with use.
