Lot 1464:
N.R. Davis and Sons Ajax Hammerless Side-by-Side Shotgun 12 Gauge with 28 Inch Barrels
Sold for: $170
Description
This N.R. Davis and Sons Ajax model is a hammerless side-by-side break-action shotgun chambered in 12 gauge, originally designed as a robust utility field gun. It features 28-inch barrels with a matted top rib and a brass front bead sight. The firearm is built on a boxlock action with double triggers and a tang-mounted sliding safety. The furniture consists of a plain walnut pistol-grip stock and a matching splinter-style forend. Key markings include the left side of the receiver stamped verbatim N.R. DAVIS and SONS / AJAX / DAVIS-WARNER ARMS CORP. / NORWICH, CONN. U.S.A. and the serial number D1773 is found stamped on the water table. The stock has been modified with an aftermarket Pachmayr White Line ventilated rubber recoil pad and exhibits a notable through-bolt repair at the wrist. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal components exhibit significant wear consistent with field use, showing a dark brown patina with widespread surface oxidation and areas of light pitting on the barrels and receiver. The walnut stock and forend show numerous dings, scratches, and a heavy through-bolt repair at the wrist. The bores were not inspected, but the action appears to function correctly and locks up with minimal play. The Pachmayr recoil pad is well-worn and shows some hardening.
