Lot 1541:
A Trio of Partial Boxes of Alcan and Winchester-Western Shotshell Wads and Components
Description
This lot consists of a trio of partial boxes containing shotshell reloading components from the Alcan Company, Incorporated and Winchester-Western. Two of the boxes are yellow Alcan brand containers from Alton, Illinois, featuring the company crest with two lions flanking the initials AL. One of these boxes is labeled for Kwik-Sett Shot Strips and contains clear rectangular plastic strips, while the other contains thick, fibrous cylindrical filler wads in blue-gray and brown tones. The third box is a Winchester-Western container for 10 gauge cardboard wads with a thickness of .050 inches, which holds various circular cardboard discs. Key markings transcribed verbatim from the packaging include ALCAN, THE MARK OF QUALITY, SHOTSHELL WADS, ALCAN COMPANY, INCORPORATED, ALTON, ILLINOIS, and 10 GA. CARDBOARD WADS .050 IN. THICK. The Alcan boxes also include references to Kwik-Sett SHOT STRIP and DISPENSE-A-WAD on their top lids. The Winchester-Western box also features the Olin corporate designation.
Condition report:
The cardboard boxes exhibit moderate shelf wear consistent with age, including edge fraying, some tearing at the corners, and old adhesive tape residue on the Alcan packaging. The Winchester-Western box has a handwritten ink price calculation on the front face. The interior components appear well-preserved and are present in varying quantities, representing partial remains of the original factory counts.
