Description

This Connecticut Valley Arms Hawken-style muzzleloading percussion rifle is a single-shot firearm chambered in .50 caliber, designed with a heavy octagonal barrel finished in traditional bluing. The rifle features a polished wood stock complemented by a suite of brass furniture, including a crescent-shaped buttplate, a decorative patch box on the right side of the buttstock, an ornate trigger guard with a finger spur, a nose cap, and ramrod pipes. Sighting is handled by a fixed blade front sight and an adjustable leaf rear sight. Verbatim markings on the top-left barrel flat specify Connecticut Valley Arms, Inc. Black Powder Only .50 Cal. Spain HAWKEN. Additional markings include the proof and pressure stamps 700Kp/cm² H 2. The serial number 88 537727 is clearly stamped on the left side of the barrel breech. The percussion lock plate retains a visible case-hardened finish, and the rifle is accompanied by a wooden ramrod with brass tips and a Gun Guard brand black and red plastic hard carrying case. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.

Condition report:

The rifle is in good overall condition. The blued finish on the octagonal barrel is largely well-preserved, showing only minor thinning at the high points and light handling marks. The case coloring on the lock plate remains distinct. The brass furniture exhibits a moderate, natural patina and light tarnishing that would respond well to polishing. The wood stock is in good order, displaying various small dings and superficial scratches consistent with field use. The bore was not internally inspected, but the rifling appears sharp at the muzzle. The action appears to function correctly with a crisp trigger pull, though the rifle has not been function-tested.
