Gun Collectors Dream Auction #84 June 13th & 14th
Lot 591:
Sold for: $225
Description
This is a sporterized Japanese Arisaka Type 99 bolt-action rifle, chambered in 7.7x58mm Japanese. The firearm features a blued barrel and receiver mounted in a modified wood stock that retains the characteristic two-piece buttstock construction with a visible horizontal seam. The forend has been shortened and the original military hardware removed for a sporting configuration. Technical specifications include a blued metal finish and a bolt handle that has been turned down to accommodate the top-mounted optic. It is equipped with a Bushnell Sportview scope on fixed mounts and a ramped front sight with a brass bead; the original military rear sight has been removed. Key markings include the serial number 001612 on the left side of the receiver, adjacent to the Kokura Arsenal symbol consisting of four interlocking circles. The top of the receiver ring displays a stylized crossed mark. The buttstock is fitted with a red rubber recoil pad marked Red Head Brand Chicago and Patent No 105358. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued finish shows thinning and scattered light surface oxidation on the barrel and receiver. The bolt is polished with some light patina. The wood stock has various dings, scuffs, and scratches consistent with age and field use, and the horizontal buttstock seam remains tight. The action appears to function smoothly, and the scope optics appear clear, though we have not function-tested this firearm.
