Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 123:
Sold for: $1,250
Description
A United States M1 semi-automatic carbine manufactured by the Inland Division of General Motors. The steel receiver is marked U.S. CARBINE CAL. .30 M1 on the front ring and INLAND DIV. above serial number 688054 on the rear bridge. The two-piece American walnut stock features a low wood profile and bears a stamped B.A arsenal cartouche on the left side of the buttstock, indicating inspection or rebuild at the Benicia Arsenal in California. The carbine is equipped with later-pattern components consistent with a post-war arsenal overhaul, including a Type III adjustable rear sight marked I.R.CO. for the International Register Co., a Type III barrel band with an integral bayonet lug, and a rotating safety switch. The magazine release is stamped with the letter M. The rifle is fitted with a checkered metal buttplate. No magazine is included with this lot.
Condition report:
Very good to fine condition. The metal surfaces exhibit a consistent dark finish throughout with minimal thinning or wear. The wood stock is well-preserved with light handling marks and surface dings consistent with military use and subsequent refurbishment. The arsenal cartouche is clearly legible and the wood retains a smooth oil finish. Mechanical components appear functional.
