Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 154:
Sold for: $55
Description
This lot consists of 100 rounds of Greek military surplus 7.92x57mm Mauser ammunition, manufactured in 1940 by Poudrerie et Cartoucherie Hellénique (P.C.H.). The ammunition is organized into five tan cardboard boxes, each containing 20 rounds. The cartridges feature rimless, bottlenecked brass cases fitted with copper-jacketed spitzer projectiles, specifically the 198-grain Schweres Spitzgeschoß or heavy pointed bullet (sS) variety. The primers are surrounded by a black sealant ring, consistent with military specifications of the era. The exterior of each box is printed in black ink with the markings 20, 7,9 sS, P.C.H., and 1940. On the base of the individual cartridges, the headstamps are clearly marked with the characters E, K, and U. This ammunition was intended for use in Mauser-pattern rifles and light machine guns chambered in the 7.92x57mm caliber. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The ammunition appears to be in good, shootable or collectible condition. The brass cases show a natural aged patina with no signs of heavy corrosion or oxidation. The copper-jacketed projectiles are intact and seated firmly in the case necks. The cardboard boxes exhibit minor shelf wear, light staining, and slight compression at the corners consistent with age, but they remain structurally sound with all printed markings legible. We have not function-tested this ammunition, and while it appears to be live, its age may affect reliability.
