Lot 164:
A Collection of 6 Finnish G.W. Sohlberg SA Marked Military Rifle Oil Bottles
Sold for: $40
Description
This lot consists of six vintage metal military firearm oil bottles of the type typically issued with Finnish Mosin-Nagant rifle maintenance kits. The bottles feature a circular, flattened body with a central circular indentation on each face, manufactured from tinned steel. Each unit is fitted with a knurled screw-on cap on a threaded neck, facilitating use in field conditions. Verbatim markings stamped into the caps include G.W. SOHLBERG AB OY and the Finnish Army property mark SA. These markings identify the manufacturer as the Finnish firm G.W. Sohlberg and confirm military provenance. The bottles show physical characteristics indicative of field use, including various minor dents, surface oxidation, and darkened oil residue.
Condition report:
The bottles are in used surplus condition, showing a mix of original tinned finish and areas of surface oxidation. Minor dents and scratches are present throughout the collection, consistent with military service. The screw caps are functional, though some have dark, sticky residue around the threads. Stamped markings on the caps range from sharp to slightly worn but remain generally legible.
