Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 163:
Sold for: $30
Description
This lot consists of 45 rounds of 8x57mm military surplus ammunition, commonly known as 8mm Mauser, housed in five original cardboard boxes. The cartridges feature 198-grain full metal jacket bullets. Prominent markings include an added importer label for Century Ammo identifying the contents as 8X57MM 198GR 15RDS, along with a retail sticker from Gary’s Gun Shop. The vintage cardboard boxes are stamped with Cyrillic characters, including так and пуш, and carry production dates of 12-1953 and 5/53. The reverse sides of the packaging display handwritten numbers in blue ink reading 18, 16, 20, 20, and 16. This ammunition is collectible military surplus intended for use in Mauser-pattern rifles.
Condition report:
The five cardboard boxes show moderate to heavy shelf wear, including surface staining, corner dings, and small tears to the flaps. The markings and stamps remain largely legible despite the aging of the paper. The internal ammunition is not visible for inspection but is assumed to be live; the cartridge cases and primers should be checked for signs of oxidation or corrosion prior to any attempt at chambering. The ammunition is being sold as a collectible surplus lot.
