Gun Collectors Dream Auction #85 Weapons of War July 18th 10AM CST
Lot 229:
Sold for: $160
Description
A collection of 165 rounds of 8mm Mauser ammunition accompanied by two distinct canvas ammunition carriers. The ammunition is mounted on five-round stripper clips of brass and steel construction. The cartridges feature rimless cases and spitzer-profile bullets with a mix of silvery cupronickel and copper-colored gilding metal jackets. The first carrier is a blue-grey canvas multi-pocket bandolier, a style typically associated with Japanese naval or special landing forces, featuring metal button closures. The second carrier is a tan canvas multi-pocket pouch designed for belt mounting, also featuring metal button closures. Both items show construction consistent with mid-20th century military manufacture. No specific headstamps or manufacturer marks are clearly visible on the cartridge bases in the provided images.
Condition report:
The canvas carriers show signs of age and field use, including fraying at the edges, surface staining, and some reddish-brown marks on the blue-grey bandolier. The ammunition and stripper clips display varying levels of surface oxidation, patina, and minor corrosion typical for surplus military ordnance. Metal buttons show some surface wear and oxidation.
