Description

This Romanian Model 1944 (M44) bolt action carbine is chambered in 7.62x54R and was produced as a compact military service rifle. It is equipped with a 20.25-inch barrel featuring an integrated side-folding spike bayonet and includes its original cleaning rod. The metal components show a thinned blued finish with scattered wear and light surface oxidation. Key markings include the Romanian RPR-style crest on the receiver above the date 1 9 5 4, the serial number GR 53, and a triangle proof mark. The left side of the receiver bears the import marking M1944 CAI GEORGIA VT ROMANIA and the caliber 7.62X54R. The furniture is a reddish-brown wood stock featuring steel barrel bands, one of which is a silver-colored replacement band stamped 5 3, and a steel buttplate stamped with a triangle mark. The right side of the buttstock displays a notable red paint mark, and the stock exhibits numerous dings and scratches consistent with military use. The carbine is fitted with a hooded post front sight and a tangent rear sight graduated to 1,000 meters. The magazine floorplate is stamped GR 53, matching the receiver serial number, while the bolt is non-matching and is stamped with serial number 2 2 8 0 7 2. The action appears to function correctly, but we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The blued finish shows significant thinning and wear throughout, with light surface oxidation present on the barrel, receiver, and magazine housing. The wood stock is in fair to good condition, exhibiting numerous service-related dings, scratches, and a large red paint marking on the right side of the butt. The bore shows standard military wear but retains defined rifling. The action appears to function smoothly, and the folding bayonet locks securely in both the deployed and stowed positions.
